Your eyes and teeth are as important to your overall health as your heart and brain. But for many, dental and vision care can fall by the wayside when trying to access increasingly expensive healthcare. That’s why Pacific University recently established its EyeSmile Outreach Program.
Paula Kutzner OD, MEd/VFL ‘18 worked with a Forest Grove elementary school to develop new in-school vision screenings to improve learning opportunities for children. Her efforts will continue as the screenings become part of ongoing outreach to local schools through Pacific. Kutzner is pursuing simultaneous doctor of optometry and master of education degrees from Pacific.
Stacy Bannerman is dressed head-to-toe in red, white and blue. Her Old Navy T-shirt is adorned with an American flag. She doesn’t look like the stereotype of a peace activist. The political narrative often paints those who oppose the country’s War on Terror as anti-military, even anti-American. That’s not Bannerman.
Undergraduate students at Pacific University each are required to take courses that fulfill a civic engagement credit. This winter, students lined up for one such class.
