Warren Shaw has racked up some air miles. A retired police officer from Hawai’i, Shaw has attended almost every Pacific University football game in the past four years, cheering on his son, Boxer quarterback Warner Shaw. This season, Dad had a different idea.
Growing up, Avery Richardson ’17 wasn’t sure his father’s alma mater was even real. “He’s a corny guy, and my mom would joke, ‘Did you even go to college?’” Avery said. “He’d talk about Pacific, and it sounded like he made it up.” He didn’t.

The clouds in the sky only make the smiles on the football field brighter. It’s a Tuesday morning, and Bob Schurman, an old friend of the Pacific University football program, is making his first visit to Lincoln Park Stadium.
“Love,” Ed McQuary ’63 says simply. “You gotta love kids in order to coach.”
