Chad Toomey 1994

Chad Toomey ’94 has accepted a firefighter position with the Forest Grove Fire Department. Toomey has worked at the Pacific University Outback since 1997 and also served as a volunteer firefighter. “It is such a privilege to be accepted into this fine staff of professionals,” he said. “At the same time, I will be saying farewell to a wonderfully supportive organization — Pacific University. These are exciting times!”

Paul Berman O.D. ’75 was honored at the White House on Oct. 2, 2012, for his work as founder and global clinical adviser of the Special Olympics Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes program, in which volunteers provide vision tests, as well as protective sports goggles and prescription eyeglasses as needed, to all Special Olympics participants. Dr. Berman developed the program in 1991, during his term as president of the AOA Sports Vision Section, and the Lions Clubs International Foundation assumed sponsorship in 2001. A widely recognized sports vision practitioner, Berman has a practice in Hackensack, N.J., and has received many professional recognitions for his work.

Ryan Aiello MA '06 is the associate dean of student development at Portland Community College, Rock Creek. He previously spent 13 years working with students at Pacific University.

Justin Arnold '06 recently started an internship at the Office of Sen. Jeff Merkley, working on policy.

Trista Berry '06

Trista Berry '06 completed her master of science in microbiology and molecular genetics at the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston in August 2014 and is managing a lab focused on developing an early molecular detection method for sepsis.

Jayme Ing '06 and Jesse Wong ’08 were married. Pacific alumni in the wedding party included Amy Fenton ’09, Leanne (Santella) Barden ’09 and Jordan Wong ’11. Reese Moriyama ’10 was the wedding photographer.
