Chad Toomey 1994

Chad Toomey ’94 has accepted a firefighter position with the Forest Grove Fire Department. Toomey has worked at the Pacific University Outback since 1997 and also served as a volunteer firefighter. “It is such a privilege to be accepted into this fine staff of professionals,” he said. “At the same time, I will be saying farewell to a wonderfully supportive organization — Pacific University. These are exciting times!”

Paul Berman O.D. ’75 was honored at the White House on Oct. 2, 2012, for his work as founder and global clinical adviser of the Special Olympics Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes program, in which volunteers provide vision tests, as well as protective sports goggles and prescription eyeglasses as needed, to all Special Olympics participants. Dr. Berman developed the program in 1991, during his term as president of the AOA Sports Vision Section, and the Lions Clubs International Foundation assumed sponsorship in 2001. A widely recognized sports vision practitioner, Berman has a practice in Hackensack, N.J., and has received many professional recognitions for his work.

Miranda (McNeal) Yancy '10

Miranda (McNeal) Yancy ’10 and husband AJ welcomed twin sons Hudson Harper David Yancy and Lincoln Lucas Andrew Yancy on March 25, 2014. Hudson weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 18.5 inches. Lincoln weighed 4 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 18.25 inches.

Jefferson Bethke and wife Alyssa welcomed Kinsley Joy Bethke on May 15, 2014. She weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19 inches long.

Krista Burnham '11, PharmD '14

Krista Burnham ’11, PharmD ’14 is working for the Wilsonville, Ore.-based Creative Compounds, a state and nationally certified compounding pharmacy that produces custom-made batches of prescription drugs. The business was founded by Krista’s mother, Denise Burnham, who hopes to one day hand over the reins to her daughter. Read more about Burnham at pacificu.edu/burnham.

Sean Davis MFA appears in Olympia to read from his new book, The Wax Bullet War: Chronicles of a Soldier & Artist, a memoir of Davis’ experience as a veteran of the Iraq War. The appearance is part of a national tour including stops in Utah, Idaho, Michigan and Wisconsin, as well as the Northwest.
